1.4 Classroom Identity: Part 2

Items Needed:

 

Set the Stage: 

Review the discussion and board from last week's lesson concerning commonalities of the students, and the relevance of belonging to a group.

Explain that groups will suggest names and mottos for their class.

 

Activity: 

Many groups have a name and motto that represent them.

  • Examples include the New York Yankees, NBCNews, Nike; our own school name and motto.

Assign students to groups and distribute one Names and Mottos Handout to each group.

Have groups discuss and choose one name and one motto for the class. They can come up with their own ideas if desired.

Have student groups write their final motto on a butcher paper/ piece of paper, and pick a representative to present in the next SEL lesson.
