1.3 Learn Something New: Part 3

Items Needed:

Set the Stage:

Pass out students' completed Guidelines and Instructions Worksheet and have them pair back up with their buddy.

  • Explain that students will have the opportunity to teach their buddy the skill as discussed previously.

Activity:

Have students refer to their buddy’s completed Guidelines and Instructions worksheet to start learning the skill.

  • Students should focus on one activity at a time.
  • Students can revise written instructions if they feel they were not detailed enough or if they need to correct a step.
  • Students may also verbally assist each other with the skill if necessary.

Circulate in the classroom and provide assistance as necessary.

Discuss the Activity as a Class:

  • Were you able to figure out how to do the task based on your buddy’s instructions?
  • Did any of you need to make revisions to your instructions so they were clearer?
  • Did anything surprise you?
  • Were you able to learn something new?
  • Would you want to try it again?
  • Would you be able to teach someone else the task you learned or pass on the knowledge?
  • What did you learn about similarities and differences based on this activity?
