1.3 Learn Something New: Part 2
Items Needed:
- Last weeks COMPLETED BRAINSTORMING PREP Worksheet: https://online.harmonysel.org/grade-4-brainstorming-prep-worksheet/ Links to an external site.
- GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS WORKSHEET (one per student): https://online.harmonysel.org/grade-4-guidelines-and-instructions-worksheet/ Links to an external site.
- Writing utencils
Set the Stage:
Pass out students Brainstorming Prep Worksheet from the last SEL lesson.
Have students form buddy pairs. If there is an uneven number, create a three-person group.
- Have buddies discuss the different things they could teach each other from their Brainstorm Prep worksheet.
- Buddies must teach a skill that partners do not already know. Partners must be willing to learn and try out this new skill. Circulate the classroom and make sure each pair chooses tasks that meet the requirements for the assignment.
Activity:
Distribute the Guidelines and Instructions Worksheet to each student.
- Students take turns providing verbal instructions on their skill as their buddy writes them down on the Guidelines and Instructions Worksheet.
- Instructions need to be detailed and clear. If someone else were to read it, they should be able to understand and complete the task.
Pick up the completed GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS WORKSHEET from each student for next week's lesson.
- Remind students when to bring their items to school so they can teach the skills to their partner in next week's SEL lesson.
