Explain the value of differences.
- Differences allow us to learn new things, consider unique ideas, think about alternative perspectives, and value different experiences. Our differences make the world exciting.
Share an example in which you made friends with someone who has different characteristics than you.
- I realized that I like sushi; I learned how to bowl; I started to like detective shows!
Explain that the class will be teaching one another new skills.
Your first task is to decide on a skill you have that you would like to teach someone else.
- You could teach someone how to knit, jump rope, draw a rocket ship, or hula-hoop.
- You could help someone better understand a subject we’re studying.
What you teach needs to be something you can do in the classroom (or on the playground).
Activity:
Have students prepare for the activity by completing the BRAINSTORMING PREP worksheet.
- Think of three to four things you can teach and write your ideas on the Brainstorming Prep Worksheet.
- If you have trouble thinking of ideas, look at the list of ideas on the worksheet.
Allow the rest of the SEL time for these worksheets to be completed.
Each student should complete this worksheet. Pick it up at the end of the lesson- it will be utilized for next week activity.
